NEXT MEETING: FEBRUARY 17, 2010

"DESIGNING YARN FOR QUALITY FABRIC"

Our guest speaker for this meeting will be Bobbie Irwin from Colorado, who will be in the Bay Area visiting several guilds. Her topic for us is the designing of yarn. Part of the focus is on deciding the purpose for the yarn before you start spinning. What a concept! But if you have a specific project in mind, choosing the appropriate fiber, the preparation, spinning technique and finishing are all tremendously important in making that idea come to life.

There is nothing wrong with finding some beautiful fiber, spinning it up just for the luscious feel and gorgeous look of it, but when you want a creation to come out with the least number of nasty surprises possible, then designing ahead of time is what you want to do.
