February 26, 2015

Program and Workshop subjects with Sarah Anderson in April have just been finalized and the info follows below.
March meeting info will be published in about a week.

Treadles to Threads and Spindles and Flyers have joined together to present four class opportunities with Sarah. Two mini classes will be offered as Guild Programs - one at each Guild. And, two workshops - one held in Walnut Creek and one held in San Francisco.

Sarah Anderson has published the book, "the Spinner's Book of Yarn Designs" shown to the left. She is very accomplished in her craft of spinning and you may have watched her videos on YouTube. We are fortunate that she will be down here for CNCH at Asilomar and is going to stay a bit longer to visit with both of our guilds.

Wednesday, April 15, 2015:  Treadles Program as a 3 hour mini class on "Drafting:  Long Draw and Short Draw. 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm.
Only paid members of either Guild are welcome to attend. You can bring spinning wheels.
Location:  New Life Fellowship, 3535 Chestnut Ave. Concord

Thursday, April 16, 2015  Workshop, 10 am to 4 pm. Location:  North Gate Clubhouse, Walnut Creek [directions will be sent to you once you sign up]
"Advanced Plying:  Novelty Yarns, Core Yarns, Cable, Crepe and Boucles" [Sarah refers to these as Art Yarns, but they are not the quirky, anything goes type most of us know] This class is geared towards advanced spinners.
Cost: $50, paid to Treadles to Threads. There will also be a material fee paid directly to Sarah.
Some of the plying techniques you will learn in Advanced Plying

Saturday, April 18, 2015:  Workshop, 9 am to 3 pm.  Location: Quilt Works, 27 Blanken Ave. San Francisco.
"Beginners Plying Techniques" such as spiral, chain, cable, crepe and core yarns. Geared to beginners who already have the basics of spinning down.
Cost:  $55, paid to Spindles and Flyers. Material fee also paid directly to Sarah.

Sunday, April 19, 2015 Spindles and Flyers Program as a 3 hour mini class on "Very Basic Plying, including Andean and cabling."
Only paid members of either guild are welcome to attend. You can bring spinning wheels but space is pretty limited at this location.
Location:  715 Lexington Ave., El Cerrito  11am to 2 pm

Both workshops listed above have a limit of 18 people each, basically nine from each guild. If the allotted spaces for each guild are not filled, the spaces will be opened up to all. Our guild has chosen to fill the spaces on a lottery basis. Put your name in the workshop you desire and hope you are chosen. You can put your name in each one, BUT will only be allowed to take one space if you are chosen more than once. At our last meeting on Feb. 25th, some have already placed their names in.

Drawing for a space will be at the March 19th meeting. If you are unable to attend, please have someone else put your name in. You do not have to be present to win! You will be expected to send in a check as soon as possible to hold your space.

As a special treat for Treadles members only:  Friday, April 17, 2015 Workshop, either 9 am to 3 pm or 10 am to 4 pm depending on what Sarah wants.
Location:  5452 Anselmo Ct. Concord
"Advanced Plying" [same workshop as the Thursday one above]
Cost: $50 paid to Treadles to Threads. A material fee will also be paid directly to Sarah
This workshop will also be filled on a lottery basis on March 19th at our meeting.
